Floral Design in a Rich Spectrum of Colours and Finishes

With Ivy, Freifrau Manufaktur presents a new chair that sets fresh visual and conceptual accents. Designed by Sebastian Herkner, Ivy is the first piece in the Freifrau collection to feature a visible wooden shell. Its floral, organic design defines the chair’s character, bringing a new aesthetic to the Freifrau world – particularly in the colour-finished versions, created in collaboration with wood specialists Schotten & Hansen.

Until now, Freifrau has primarily used wood as a structural material – with Ivy, it becomes a defining design element. The organically shaped shell, reminiscent of a blossom, lends the chair an elegant and tranquil presence. This has been achieved through an innovative construction: moulded wood wool forms a strong yet flexible core, while premium oak veneer refines the surface. This combination allows for complex, three-dimensional shapes, provides a natural elasticity and enhances the ergonomic qualities of the chair. “We wanted to create a shell that truly sets itself apart from our previous models in both form and surface”, says managing director Marc Helweg. “Sebastian Herkner has succeeded in realising this vision, while at the same time fully meeting our uncompromising standards of comfort and quality.” Herkner adds: “The design is soft and organic, and even at first glance conveys a high level of seating comfort.”

The IVY frames

IVY frames offer a wealth of different styles and designs. Whether in terms of form, function or colour, IVY truly blossoms in its diversity.

Double pipe steel frame

Fine metal pipings converge elegantly to form the supporting element – a construction that is technically precise yet appears so wonderful organic. The frame supports the seat as if it were a matter of course, almost as if it were floating.

4--legs steel frame

The four-legged steel frame combines lightness and stability in a clear way. The slender, tapered and slightly flared legs give the chair a calm elegance.

Flat steel frame with cross, rotatable & autoreturn

The frame, consisting of four flat steel legs, combines clean lines with a light presence. The surface can be powder-coated. An integrated swivel and return mechanism ensures smooth movements with pleasant seating comfort and allows the chair to return to its original position after use.

Wooden frame with cross, rotatable & autoreturn

The cross frame combines a sturdy metal frame with attached wooden legs. In addition to our standard colours and double brand colours, these can be customised using the Schotten & Hansen x NCS feat. by Janua colour system. Underneath the seat, the swivel and return mechanism ensures that it returns to its original position automatically.

Woodenframe

The static wooden frame consists of four clearly shaped legs that form the base of the chair. The natural structure of the wood is visible, giving the frame a warm, lively appearance. Available in natural oak, black oak or in the double brand colours that match the current Janua collection.

Connected By Colours

IVY also offers a wide range of colours: in addition to classic oak and walnut surfaces, there is a selection of double brand colours that harmonise perfectly with the tables from partner brand Janua. Thanks to the finishing by Schotten & Hansen, IVY can also be designed in eleven additional exclusive colour families, the Schotten & Hansen x NCS feat. by Janua colours, which are also available exclusively for many Janua table surfaces.
